Hungarian Purple is a hardneck rocambole variety with 7 -9 cloves per head. Like the name suggests, it is originally from Hungary. It has white wrappers with some brown and purple stripes and the cloves are light brown with purple striping. It has a strong, complex garlic flavor with a sharp heat when it is raw and maintains a strong garlic flavor when cooked. Makes for a wonderful “true garlic flavor” in all sorts of cooking applications. Hungarian Purple is a reliable grower and is very cold tolerant. it also has an excellent shelf life.
